THE continuing foot-and-mouth crisis has led to the cancellation of another event in the celebrations marking Bedale's 750 market charter anniversary.
A clay pigeon shoot, which was to have been held on Sunday, August 4, at Crakehall, has been called off.
"Restrictions on the venue have recently been lifted, but it would have been taking a silly risk," said event organiser Jim Baty.
"A lot of shooters come from farming backgrounds and quite a lot of them live in the Thirsk and Skipton areas.
"There was a significant risk of spreading the disease, and I wouldn't have felt happy about it."
A spokesman for the 750 festival said: "We're sorry to lose this event and fully appreciate the reasons why.
"However, we have now passed the three-quarter mark in the festival and generally speaking, have much to be thankful for."
The other event in the four-month festival to be cancelled because of the crisis was a vintage tractor rally, which was to have been held in Bedale on June 16
