THE contract to supply high-tech undersoil heating at Darlington's new football stadium has been awarded to Cumbrian firm Begetube Northern.
The Carlisle business beat stiff competition from across the UK for the undersoil system that will ensure play goes on at the 25,000-seat Hurworth Moor stadium, on the outskirts of the town, even in the poorest conditions.
Begetube Northern managing director, Richard Dixon, said: "This was one of the most sought-after contracts in the business and we are delighted to be involved in such a prestigious development.
"This fantastic new stadium will put Darlington FC on the map, and with our expertise we aim to make sure the team has a fantastic playing surface all year round."
He added: "The undersoil operation uses the latest technology on the market, and involves the installation of thousands of metres of pipe underneath the pitch to prevent matches being called off as a result of freezing conditions."
The new multi-million pound stadium, financed by club chairman George Reynolds, boasts a gymnasium, study centre for schoolchildren, club shop and hospitality boxes.
Stadium construction manager Frank Little said: "This is going to be a spectacular development and we intend to make the pitch the envy of the Football League.
"We needed the best and, of all the proposals we looked at, Begetube Northern offered the expertise we demanded."
