A TEESDALE soldier has been in Northern Ireland helping the police during this year's marching season.
Private Simon 'Jonnie' Walker, 32, has been providing military support to the Royal Ulster Constabulary as part of the 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment.
Pte Walker, from Middleton-in-Teesdale, joined the Army in 1989 and over the past 12 years has travelled throughout the world.
He said: "I thoroughly enjoy what I do. It's a great job, I get the chance to travel all over the world and our peace-keeping role is extremely worthwhile and rewarding."
This month the troops have helped to enforce the Northern Ireland Parade's Commission's decision to ban the Orange Order's annual Drumcree Parade from its traditional route.
