PAUL Barker secured his first Wembley ticket at Mossbrook Arena, Manchester, when he finished second in the National Grade C qualifier.
Barker, from Pasture House, Northallerton, was riding Ginette Brogan's seven-year-old Nethertowns Kiss, which was also seventh in the Horse and Hound Foxhunter semi-final at Lough Farm, Carlisle two days later.
That earned his ticket for the Festival of Show Jumping at Arena UK in September and Barker also carried a festival ticket by finishing third in the Foxhunter semi-final on Sunboy.
Barker was also third in the 1.20m open at Lough Farm with Blue Chip Quinton and in the McAlpine Homes Open with Faraway Hills.
There was some good jumping at Richmond Equestrian Centre, Brough Park, where international event rider Karen Dixon won the Great Leigh Newcomers on Up To Trixs and was runner-up on Bobbit in the 1m open behind BSJA course designer Keith Balbach, of Ingleby Barwick, on Westmoor.
The Hadrian Equine Discovery was won by Jane Aspin on Asheeriti and Elwick sisters Jennifer and Amanda Cowan were also on top form. Jennifer took the British Novice on Dovecote Jenny and Amanda won the Members Cup with Dovecote Jilly.
l The BSJA Area 15 show has been switched from Pasture House, Northallerton to Birchinley Manor, Rochdale, due to the foot-and-mouth crisis. It will take place on August 1 and 2.
The schedule includes second round qualifiers for senior and junior Newcomers and Scope/Festival classes.
