THE largest single-site development plan in a North-East town's history has been given a boost after the Government decided not to call the proposals in for inspection.
The Government Office for the North-East has given the go-ahead to the 115-acre Darlington West Park scheme, planned for the Faverdale area of town.
Outline plans were agreed by Darlington Borough Council last month.
The ten-year scheme will develop up to 600 homes on the former Darchem chemical plant site. It will also involve the relocation of Darlington Memorial Hospital's Pierremont Unit to a £15m mental health unit, a new home for Mowden Park Rugby Club, a community shop, a doctor's surgery and a park.
