MR JOHN Elliott, above, from Coulby Newham, near Middlesbrough, is looking forward to the trip of a lifetime to New Zealand with AgriVenture.
He has been working on a local farm but is heading to Australia for a month's holiday before arriving in New Zealand at the beginning of September to work for Neil and Karen Wightman, who have a 370-cow dairy herd near Huntly, in the North Island.
"Friends of mine have worked over there and I really wanted to find out what it is like to live and work there," said Mr Elliott. "AgriVenture have arranged everything for me and provide plenty of back-up during my stay.
"I know this trip will broaden my farming knowledge and there will be plenty of scope for meeting like-minded people from all over the world as well."
Mr Elliott joins about 40 other young people who will leave the UK during August, September and October for a variety of placements in Australia and New Zealand as part of the AgriVenture programme, which offers work placements with hosts in agriculture, horticulture and home management jobs.
AgriVenture, run by the International Agricultural Exchange Association, offers opportunities to young people between 18 and 30 to travel and work in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA and Japan.
