WORK on a major safety scheme at a notorious accident blackspot in North Yorkshire will get under way later this month.
The £4.1m project will involve the traffic-light controlled junction on the dual carriageway A64 at Top Lane, Copmanthorpe, near York.
The work will involve constructing a new link road and underpass beneath the A64 to provide access between the village and York.
The site is next to the Askham Bog site of special scientific interest and will also include major environmental work, such as landscaping, planting of trees and shrubs and a new wildlife area with pond.
Work on the project will begin on Monday, and the new junction is due to open to traffic by the end of next summer.
A public exhibition giving details of the scheme will be held in the Women's Institute Hall, Copmanthorpe, on Friday and Saturday, July 27 and 28.
