A NEW out of school club - the first of its kind in Thirsk - opened this week.
With the help of a £27,000 grant from the National Lottery New Opportunities Fund, the 154 Club as it will be known, has been set up by a newcomer to the area, Mrs Linda Craggs and a committee.
She has moved to Thirsk from the East Riding where she launched a similar venture.
On hearing the need for such a facility in Thirsk, she set about looking for funding, premises and staff.
Based in Thirsk community hall, the school offers a breakfast club and after-school provision plus holiday play schemes for children aged four to 15 who are in full-time education.
Mrs Craggs said: "The school has been registered to cater for up to 40 children. The £27,000 grant will be used to pay staff, buy equipment and toys.
"We aim to provide an exciting and stimulating range of play provision for all children. Qualified and experienced staff will be on duty at all times."
During school holidays, the club will be open from 7.30am to 6pm at a charge of £12 for the first child and £10 for the second. There will also be a session from 10am to 4pm.
For term time, the hours will be 7.30- 9am and after school to 6pm. Breakfast or tea will be provided.
