A HOSPICE has paid tribute to a breakfast TV show and a B&Q store for the work they have done on the hospice garden.
As part of GMTV's Get up and Give appeal, the barren garden at the Butterwick Children's Hospice, in Stockton, was transformed and launched by presenter Fiona Phillips yesterday.
The garden was given a Ground Force-style makeover by staff at B&Q's Stockton branch.
Ray Laider, the Butterwick Trust's fundraising manager, said: "We have all forgotton what it looked like before, although we can remember it was quite stark.
"The transformation is absolutely magnificent, and will bring a lot of joy to a lot of people. We would like to say a big thank-you to GMTV and B&Q, who have both worked wonders."
Local garden designer Simon Cross tailored the new garden to the needs of hospice residents, with raised flower beds, water features, camomile lawns, a mural and shady areas.
There is also a wendy house and seats where people can relax.
Mr Laider said: "The garden means a lot to a tremendous amount of people, and this transformation is absolutely spot-on. There is something for everyone."
