A FORMER PE teacher has launched a business passing on her love of mountain biking to young people.
Liz Copsey, of Catterick Village, had to postpone the Easter start for her Ride with a Guide sessions, which encourage youngsters to learn safe off-road skills, when foot-and-mouth disease gripped North Yorkshire.
Although the virus is still rife in the Thirsk area and in Bishopdale, she hoped a relaxation of footpath restrictions will allow the scheme to begin.
The sessions, aimed at groups of up to eight youngsters, with herself and another instructor, will cover trails of between ten and 15 miles.
Skills covered include safe riding, navigation, mapping and bike maintenance and general knowledge. She has also been trained by the off-road training consultancy.
She said: "I am a member of Swaledale outdoor club but have only been out about three times on my bike since February because of foot-and-mouth."
Youngsters taking part in her rides must take their own bikes and a helmet. Rides begin at 10am or 11am and cost £6 per rider. Details are available from Miss Copsey, tel 01748 812071 or on lcbusylizzie
