FAME beckons for one North-East band as it celebrates double success by being invited to take part in a celebrated festival.

Resthouse, whose members are from Shildon and Newton Aycliffe, had barely come back down to earth after winning a battle of the bands contest when they were invited to take part in next month's Edinburgh Festival.

Singer and guitarist, Tom Tolson, said the band was absolutely thrilled by the invitation, which it is hoped will take them one step closer to stardom.

He said: "We will be playing in a place called Hush on the last night of the festival. It is only on the fringes of the event, but I think it's going to be good."

The band beat stiff competition from across the region at the Sound Trak 2001 festival, at Shildon Athletics Stadium on July 14, to win a free day's recording at Studio 64 in Middlesbrough.

When Tom went home after the event he received the e-mail to say organisers of the Edinburgh Festival were impressed by the demo tape they had sent.

Tom immediately called fellow band-members Craig Riley, Wayne Thompson and Paul Scott, from Shildon, who were delighted by the news.
