TRUSTY loser Quixall Crossett cantered to a record defeat yesterday in the 100th race of its 12-year career.

The lagging nag had the cheering crowds behind it as it held up the rear end of the 12-strong line of racers, at Southwell racecourse near Nottingham.

But no one seemed to mind when 16-year-old Quixall - named after 1960s Manchester United striker Albert Quixall - was pulled out of the 3.50pm race after completing just under two laps of the three-mile run yesterday.

It walked off half way before the end of the race and jockey Nick Kent, 33, from Lincolnshire, said the horse just was not in the mood to run.

Owner Ted Caine, 58, from High Crossett Farm, Chop Gate, North Yorkshire, said he was disappointed but added it would not mean retirement for Quixall.
