IT was a case of up, up and away for those taking part in a great balloon race at a Darlington church.
Thousands of balloons were released yesterday by parishioners at St James the Great Church.
The balloon race was part of 125th jubilee celebrations at the church and should raise up to £800 towards its restoration fund.
Those taking part paid £1 each and attached their name and address to their balloon.
The one that is returned having travelled furthest will win its owner £40.
Father Ian Grieves, of St James' Church, said: "It was absolutely superb and the kids had great fun releasing the balloons."
