HUNDREDS of youngsters will converge on the North-East today, to take part in the largest regatta of its kind in Europe.
More than 300 competitors, sailing 22 dinghies, have entered the National Youth Regatta, held at the Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club (DRSC) until Friday.
The event has been organised by the National School Sailing Association.
DRSC commodore Ossie Johnson said: "It is an honour for the club to have been chosen once again to host this special event."
Sixteen teams will be taking part, including ones from South Tyneside, Cleveland and Yorkshire.
The competitors will be staying at Dukeshouse Wood Centre, Hexham, Northumberland.
