SHOPPERS and staff at four supermarkets have raised almost £10,000 for charity.

The Morrison's branches in Darlington and Bishop Auckland held fun days at the end of June and collected money for Save the Children.

Shoppers at Morton Park, Neasham Road and North Road, in Darlington, enjoyed treats including steam train rides and free ice cream, while staff at the Bishop Auckland store held a Supermarket Sweep competition.

Between them, they raised £9,638, which will be donated to the chain's charity of the year, Save the Children.

A Morrison's spokesman said: "We would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who came along and joined in.

"The staff put a huge effort into making the day a success, but we could not have raised such a fantastic total without the kind-hearted generosity of our shoppers."
