YOUNGSTERS from a Wearside church are to run activities for orphaned and deprived Romanian children.

A team of 32, including leaders, will leave for Hungary from the Bethany Christian centre, at Houghton-le-Spring, early next month.

They will spend two weeks at a holiday camp, where 41 Romanian youngsters are having a break.

The team will be organising activities, sports, English language lessons, giving health advice, and learning Romanian.

They will be taking out Sunderland AFC shirts, bought at a discount from Geordie Jeans, to give to the Romanians.

The team will set off on Monday, August 6, and return on Saturday, August 18.

A spokesman for the church said: "The team will be running a variety of activities, crafts, sports, games and day trips.

"As well as this, the Romanian children will also be receiving some basic healthcare education, together with toiletries. The team will also be taking toys and gifts out for the children.

"There will also be daily language classes, where the Romanians will be taught English, but also the Bethany team will learn some of the Romanian language.

"The team will also be covering some of the miracles of Jesus in a daily teaching slot."
