AN A-level student who worked at three different jobs to pay for a scooter and holiday, has had her bike and holiday money stolen in separate incidents.

Kristy Abbott, 18, from Spennymoor, took three jobs which she fitted in around her A-level studies to pay for her red Peugeot Trekker moped and a holiday to Ayia Napa, in Cyprus.

But in the early hours of Thursday, her scooter was stolen from outside her home, where it was locked and parked behind the family car.

Kristy's mother, Karen, said the thieves would have had to lift the scooter over the car to steal it.

Mrs Abbott said she does not know how to break the news to her daughter, who is on the holiday she had been saving for.

To add to the injury, Kristy's £120 holiday money has been stolen in Cyprus.

Mrs Abbott said: "She bought the scooter last June and had just four payments left on it.

"She's a good kid and it makes me sick. She is doing four A-levels at New College, in Durham, and worked at Caf Rock in Durham, the bowls club in Spennymoor and Ken Warne newsagents in Spennymoor to pay for it.

"I don't know how I'm going to tell her. She was in tears on the phone when she told me about the money."
