AN inquest into the death of a father in a head-on car crash involving five people opens today.
Part-time salesman Graham Johnson died at the scene of the crash on a County Durham road on Monday evening.
Five other people were hurt and two were still in Durham University Hospital with serious injuries, last night.
They were Carole Harrison, 27, of Sylvia Terrace in Shield Row, Stanley, and Mike Marshall, also 27, of Park Ward, South Moor, near Stanley. Both were in a stable condition.
Police are investigating the accident on the B6313 Craghead to Grange Villa road, near Stanley, at 5.50pm and need witnesses to come forward.
Mr Johnson, who had a two-year-old daughter named Bernadette, lived in Wordsworth Avenue, in Pelton Fell, near Chester-le-Street, and was described as a "gentle giant" by his father Richard. He was a front seat passenger in a Vauxhall Cavalier driven by Peter Hardman when the car collided with a Vauxhall Zafira.
Other victims of the accident, Robert Palmer, 54, Peter Hardman, 30, of Poplar Street, South Moor, Peter Hardman, 50, of Mary Street, Annfield Plain and Robert Palmer, 54, of Park Road, South Moor, have all been released from hospital
