BOWES Hutchinson's CE Aided Primary School, near Barnard Castle, has achieved the Arts Council of England's Artsmark Award for Excellence.
The national award recognises commitment to arts education, and covers subjects such as art and design, dance, literature and music.
To qualify, schools have to carry out an audit of their arts provision.
The Arts Council of England highlighted Bowes school's commitment to encouraging pupils to take part in a wide range of art forms, and for maintaining links with local artists and arts organisations.
Headteacher Sue Griffiths said: "I am delighted that the Arts Council of England has recognised the quality of the arts provision at Bowes Hutchinson's School, which we believe is a very important part of the broad and balanced curriculum that we provide."
