Middlesbrough coach Steve Harrison was happy with his side's performance in a 3-0 win over non-league Scarborough last night.
Boro reached the North Riding Senior Cup final against York City with goals from Mark Hudson, Noel Whelan and Luke Wilkshire.
And Harrison revealed that Steve McLaren's new-look coaching team were satisfied men.
"The players have all shown the right attitude since we came and they did again here," said Harrison.
"They have worked extremely hard over the past two or three weeks and they are looking quite lively."
Harrison also indicated that he was pleased with the young guns in the squad.
He said: "The youngsters did well. Joseph Job did well when he came on and so did the other lads, Wilkshire, Hudson and Arturo Bernhardt.
"When they play with the side's more experienced figures then that can only improve them."
The game got off to a slow start and it could quite easily have been Scarborough who took the lead.
Middlesbrough keeper Marlon Beresford made a hash of his clearance kick and the ball fell to forward Mickie Morell.
However, with the goal gaping, Morell's cross into the box was easily dealt with by Bernhardt.
After 16 minutes Hudson put Boro in front.
The young midfielder, who celebrated signing a new two-year contract this summer, poked a loose ball home from five yards following a free kick from Keith O'Neill.
Shortly afterwards the 20-year-old, who had been attracting interest from Stoke City, put in Robbie Mustoe and his powerful shot went wide of substitute keeper Paul Newton's right-hand post.
Another promising Boro midfielder, Mark Summerbell, then headed on target after he latched on to a Robbie Stockdale cross.
The Teessiders extended their lead on 53 minutes when Whelan curled in a free kick from 18 yards, leaving Newton stranded.
Boro substitute Wilkshire burst on to the scene after 74 minutes and the Australian's first touch saw him pass to Job in the centre of the field.
Job turned two men and sent through Mustoe who crossed for the advancing Wilkshire to side foot into the Scarborough net to complete the scoring.
Scarborough: Woods (Newton 16), Atkinson (Brunton 82), Chapman, Rennison, Ellender, Ingram, Blunt, Stoker, Morell, Brodie (Burt 66), Pounder. Subs not used: Faure, Keegan, Jewell.
Middlesbrough: Beresford, Stockdale, Vickers, Cooper, Bernhardt, Hudson, Mustow, Summerbell, O'Neill (Kilgannon 65 (Wilkshire 74), Deane, Whelan (Job 59).
*Boro are hoping to open talks with Everton defender Michael Ball after raising their initial offer yesterday.
Boro's first bid of £3m plus Paul Ince was rejected by the Goodison club but they are understood to have made another approach.
Everton are looking for £7m for the 21-year-old and are waiting for other Premiership clubs to enter the bidding.
But Boro are hoping to make headway over the deal this week and are looking to reach a quick agreement with Everton and open contract negotiations with Ball.
Boro are also likely to become sellers this week with Andy Campbell locked in talks with Crystal Palace over a £1m move yesterday.
And Bolton are interested in Steve Vickers, with Grimsby wanting the centre-back on loan for 12 months
