A community centre has been given a cash boost towards its first year's running costs.
The Jubilee Fields Community Association, which has battled to get funding to build the centre, on the Shildon Estate has been given £3,000 by the Lloyds TSB Foundation.
Sue Brown, branch manager of Lloyds TSB, Newton Aycliffe, visited the centre yesterday to eat with members of the lunch club.
She said: "I am very impressed with the range of services on offer. The Jubilee Fields Community Association embodies the commitment of local people to improve their quality of life."
Elizabeth Carr, of the association, said the money would give them a chance to get on their feet.
