THE beach at Saltburn is to be turned into a pirates playground on Sunday August 5, in an action-packed day of fun and games for all the family.
Saltburn Swashbuckle Day will bring history to life on the beach.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has recruited Black Jake, Long John Silver and Captain Kidd to create the first event of its kind in the town.
Highlights of the day, which will run from 10am until 4pm, include Long John Silver's one-legged football challenge tournament, a tug of war contest, an open-air quiz and a treasure hunt.
There will also be games, drama, a competition to design a new flag to replace the Jolly Roger and a final singsong.
Team Players, a professional drama group set up and led by former financial adviser and mortgage broker Terry Wilkinson, will be organising the events.
Mr Wilkinson, who will be helped by colleagues from the Saltburn 53 Drama Group, said: "We're aiming to appeal to everyone. If people just want to sit and watch, that's great. If they want to be entertained, we've got something for them and if they want to take part - brilliant. It's for the young at heart of all ages."
