A FORMER journalism student from Darlington College is planning a well-deserved holiday after winning two out of three national awards.
Gemma Collins, 23, from Mid-Glamorgan, works for the South Wales Argus, which is published by Newsquest, the parent company of The Northern Echo.
In April, she joined reporters from around the country to sit her national journalism exams. Not only did Gemma pass all three exams, but she also scored the highest marks in the country for two of the papers.
She was awarded the Newspaper Society Award for the best interview and the Ted Bottomley Award for best newspaper practice paper.
Gemma enrolled on a three- day course at Darlington College to prepare for the examinations.
She said: " I'll spend the prize money on a holiday. I will also send a postcard to my tutor, Jon Smith, to thank him for all his help."
