COUNCIL tenants are to have their say on the future of public sector housing.
Stockton Borough Council has been looking at a range of options for the future management and maintenance of its housing stock.
The cabinet has agreed to pursue one option - the establishment of an "arm's length" management company to take over the council's role.
This means that tenants, staff and trade unions will be asked what they think of the scheme.
"Arm's length" management involves the separation of the council's function as a landlord from its strategic role, and the establishment of an organisation, made up of tenants, councillors and private sector representatives.
Under the scheme, the council hopes to access extra funding to improve homes across the borough.
But it must first review and modernise its services, set up by the company, and have its first bid to be involved in the arm's length programme accepted by the Government.
