PUPILS from Wheatlands Primary School, Redcar, are celebrating after they were runners-up in a science competition.
The youngsters were runners-up in the northern primary schools final of Science Challenge, a project that aims to inject some fun into the science national curriculum.
The young scientists were pitted against children from more than 300 other schools to gain their place at the finals, which were held at the University of Leeds.
To gain their place, the youngsters from year five planned and carried out an investigation into The perfect cuppa.
Part of the challenge involved the children presenting their findings to teachers and school governors, as well as submitting a poster of their investigation.
At the finals, which were hosted by television presenter Jenny Hull, the youngsters also had to present a drama describing their research, take part in a mini science investigation, and try to come up with the answers to a quiz.
