AN ARMY officer needed all his skill, determination and physical fitness when he took part in the Army Sailboarding Championships in high winds at Portland.
Capt Ron Moles, 40, of Chester-le-Street, who serves with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers said: "I was forced to be the windsurfing training secretary so I learned how to do it.
"This is a great sport. I love it when the wind is up and you can travel fast across the water.
"I'm lucky because the army encourage all types of sport and give me time for training and competitions. I have difficulty because I'm also the REME Yacht Club secretary so I have to spread my time around.
"I run our team with the help of three coaches and we do quite well, I'm pleased to say."
This year's championship attracted 65 competitors from across the UK and overseas who reached speeds of 35mph
