A sheltered housing scheme in east Cleveland opened for people to look around its facilities yesterday.
St Germain's Grange, at Vicarage Drive, Marske, is designed to allow older people to live independent lives by providing retirement housing with on-site care.
It will also become home to a day centre operated by social services staff from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, replacing the existing facility at Mount Pleasant.
Joy Lockhart, head of operations for the Anchor Trust, which will be operating the facility, said: "By providing retirement housing with on-site care, we hope to enable people to continue to be independent and enjoy a good quality of life."
For further information, a customer helpline has been set up on 08457-778595.
