A TEENAGER who suffered head injuries when his car hit a stone wall was still in a serious condition in hospital last night.
Ben Alderman, 18, of The Nunnery, in Bolam, near Darlington, was driving an Audi car when it left the road and crashed into a stone wall and hedge on the B6275, near Summerhouses.
His passenger, 13-year-old Christopher Martin, of Prospect Cottage, Bolam, was left with multiple lacerations after the accident, which happened on Wednesday night.
They were rushed to Darlington Memorial Hospital, but Mr Alderman was later moved to the intensive care unit of Middlesbrough General Hospital, where staff described him as "very poorly, but stable" last night.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, which happened near the Summerhouses crossroads, at about 7.30pm.
They are keen to speak to a motorcyclist who was seen heading from Piercebridge to the Royal Oak at the time of the incident.
