A SCHEME which helps disabled people visit their GP has expanded.
The South-West Durham Social Resource Centre's GP Scheme offers people transport for £1.50. It uses taxi drivers and volunteer drivers to provide the service, and members pay a subscription of £1.
The scheme has been limited to the Ferryhill, West Cornforth and Chilton area.
But because of its success, the centre has received funding from Sedgefield Local Advisory Group and the Countryside Agency to extend the scheme to Sedgefield, Fishburn and part of Trimdon.
Social car scheme coordinator Anne Frizell said: "We are delighted that we're now able to offer the service to more people."
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer driver, or who would like further information about the scheme, should contact the Social Resource Centre on 0870 7598837, 0870 7598835 or 0870 7598836.
