FOUR children were rescued in two separate incidents when a 17-year-old Scarborough youth spotted them and pulled them from the sea.
James Foy, who works in the North Bay, at Secret Sport Surf Shop, said: "We were having a barbecue when I heard a woman screaming for help. I quickly changed and swam out to them."
In the first incident, two children had drifted too far out on wave boards, and in the other, two children were trapped by the current on their inflatable rubber rings.
A coastguard spokesman said "Children should never be left unattended with dinghies and similar water sports items."
