STUDENTS are going to learn life saving skills in a scheme run by St John Ambulance.
The 12 youngsters from Northallerton College will take part in a six-hour training session at the charity's centre of excellence in Thirsk as part of the Millennium Volunteers scheme.
To qualify for a first aid certificate, the students learn a range of skills including resuscitation, treatment of unconscious casualties and incident management.
Millennium Volunteers co-ordinator Roz Elders said that the invaluable skills the students will learn on the course will last them through university or into their first jobs.
David Burke, director of training and marketing for St John Ambulance North Yorkshire and Teesside, said he was delighted the youngsters were being given the chance to learn skills which could one day help to save a life.
"We are here to help and it is exactly why St John Ambulance invested in a new centre of excellence in the heart of North Yorkshire. We are able to provide a very high standard of training and are keen to talk to any other group or organisation in the area interested in life-saving skills."
