A FAMILY firm of travelling showmen is to appeal against a decision against a site being used to store their fairground equipment and three mobile homes.
James Crow and Sons had applied for permission to turn an existing transport depot in Dalton Lane, at Dalton, near Thirsk, into a depot for storing fairground amusements and to site the family's three mobile homes.
However, earlier this year Hambleton District Council refused permission and claimed there was insufficient justification for a residential presence at the site. James Crow and Sons is now appealing because it says the council failed to recognise the needs and merits of the application.
The three mobile homes would be used as showmen's quarters because a lack of permanent accommodation sites in the 1980s meant the family had to move on a temporary basis to a site near Sunderland.
The family feels the site at Dalton is suitable for the mobile homes, and will allow them to finally settle somewhere on a permanent basis.
The appeal will be heard by the Secretary of State for the Environment during the next month.
