TWO entrepreneurs are finding their skill in working with leather is leading them into new areas, ranging from re-upholstering classic cars to making a harness for a disabled dog.
Pride Leathers, on Consett's Berry Edge Industrial Estate, was set up by Michael Chisholm and his brother-in-law, David Adams.
The pair began making horse tack, riding boots and studded leather wear for motorbike enthusiasts.
But due to demand from customers, Pride is now making a wider range of goods, including bags, cushions, dog collars and vehicle upholstery.
Mr Adams said: "We took a stand at a local show and were quickly approached by classic car enthusiasts restoring old models and searching for a company that could re-upholster their vehicles.
"We have already completed a 70-year-old Morris 1000 and have been asked to estimate for re-upholstering three 1940 double decker buses."
The company was recently recommended to a dog owner by a vet and made a harness for a disabled Yorkshire Terrier to help keep it mobile.
Mr Chisholm is one of only handful of people in the country skilled in the specialised field of footwear pattern designing and cutting.
He said: "When we started the business we were keen to move into other areas as well as making shoes, but we have been amazed at the amount and variety of business that has come our way and all by word of mouth."
