AN annual charity event has grown so big that organisers are hoping to raise £20,000 this year.
The Iceland frozen food store in Yarm Road, Darlington, has been raising money for cancer charities for the past two years, since two employees were diagnosed with the disease.
Two years ago, the store held a rounders competition, which attracted 800 people and raised £2,000. Last year's event was a fancy dress ball, which raised another £2,000.
This year, store manager Stewart Jones and his staff are organising a charity football match with Iceland employees from around the region.
As well as the football match, there will be a display of Brazilian football skills, karate and jazz bands. The Territorial Army and fire brigade will be there, with entertainment provided by the TFM Roadshow.
There will be the usual mix of competitions, stalls and displays, including a tombola with a top prize of a holiday anywhere in the world up to a value of £1,000.
The event will be staged at Hurworth Community Centre on Sunday, August 26, from noon to 5pm. Admission is free.
