TOURISM bosses say a questionnaire for holidaymakers has proved a hit.
Derwentside District Council sent out 300 tourist guides to people interested in visiting the North-West corner of County Durham.
More than a third of the people requesting a guide sent back the questionnaire that accompanied it.
Results revealed potential visitor profiles, how visitors rated the guide and, most importantly, whether it persuaded them to visit Derwentside.
Alex Watson, leader of the council, said: "This is an excellent way of encouraging potential tourists to the area and motivating them to take part in the council's research, which is an important part element for future promotional marketing."
Participants were persuaded to return the quiz by automatically being entered into a prize draw, which was eventually won by a woman from Birmingham.
