DURHAM skipper Jon Lewis has stressed to his players that there is still much to play for this season as they prepare for today's floodlit match at Worcester.
With seven games left the hosts lead Durham on run-rate in the top-of-the-table clash in the Norwich Union League division two and they also meet in Durham's final game of the season at the Riverside on September 9.
After the innings defeat at Lord's on Sunday, Lewis said: "I don't want people looking at us and saying we are not improving.
"We have a lot to play for - the pride of the team and the club, plus personal pride. We want to finish as high as possible in the championship and win our one-day league.
"We have bounced back in one-day games before after a poor four-day performance and we hope to do it again."
Durham are likely to revert to last week's one-day team, with Mark Davies and Martin Speight coming back in after missing the match at Lord's.
The highest individual score in division two this season was the 134 made by Durham-born Phil Weston for Worcestershire at Derby, while there is also the usual threat from Graeme Hick.
Worcestershire's overseas player is Andy Bichel, a Queensland teammate of Durham's Martin Love. He has played in five Tests as a quick bowler, but has also scored useful runs this summer.
Durham have revealed that Steve Harmison saw a cardiologist last week when it was suspected he might have some inflammation of the lining of the heart.
But his problem was diagnosed as a respiratory virus, from which he hopes to get the all-clear next week.
There have been a number of viruses around the team and Graeme Bridge started being sick 15 minutes before the start of play at Lord's last Friday, when the team had already been declared.
He was on the field for only a few overs on the first morning and was therefore not allowed to bowl on the second day.
Off-spinner Nicky Phillips should be fit next week, while Simon Brown and Neil Killeen are playing in the second team at Milton Keynes and could be considered for the championship match against Worcestershire starting at Kidderminster on Thursday.
