A MEDIEVAL fair is taking place in Hartlepool this weekend as part of the celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of the granting of the town's royal charter by King John.
Knights doing battle, falconry displays, a medieval market, a magician, street theatre, live music, minstrels and a hog roast are just a few of the attractions at the event, which takes place on the Headland.
It has been organised by Hartlepool Borough Council and a range of local organisations.
Lesley Strickland, the council's charter officer, said: "This is an exciting opportunity to step back in time and experience the sights, sounds and smells of one of the most colourful periods in our history."
Centred in the area around Middlegate and St Hilda's Church, the fair takes place from noon to 6pm. Admission is free.
There will be free parking at nearby Kafiga Landings, which will be signposted.
