POLICE have appealed to the public to help stamp out vandalism attacks on a town's football club, by reporting trespassers immediately.
The appeal follows a catalogue of attacks on the Annfield Plain Football Club, near Stanley, County Durham.
The call has been directed in particular to residents of Clavering Place, Scarfell Court, Skiddaw Court, Grampian Court and Helvelyn Court - many of whom have a clear view of the grounds.
Detective Constable Shaun Bailey said: "We would urge them to contact the police immediately they see any trespassers on the grounds.
"The clubhouse has been the victim of a series of vandalism attacks, not least £1,500 worth of damage to the flat roof of the club house a little over a week ago when holes were deliberately punched through it."
Mr Bailey said there had been ongoing problems of teenagers congregating on the old railway line behind the grounds and drinking cider.
Their boisterous and noisy behaviour has been the source of numerous complaints and in many instances youths were climbing the fence to get into the grounds.
Mr Bailey said there had been cases of glass broken on the football pitch. Anyone with information has been asked to call (01207) 504204.
