ONE of the North-East's most famous waterfronts has been selected to compete in the Britain in Bloom finals.
Newcastle Quayside, along with the city centre, will be visited by two judges from the Royal Horticultural Society, who arrive on August 16 for a guided tour of the city's displays.
The judges will not only be inspecting the millions of flowers but also the cleanliness and contribution from businesses and residents.
A Newcastle City Council spokesman said reaching the finals symbolised the city's improvement in recent years.
He said: "It is ten years since we progressed this far in the competition. We are asking businesses and residents with a vested interest in the city to ensure their property is given a little extra attention, for the day at least."
