A GROUP of women are hoping to raise more than £2,000 for the Cancer Research Campaign at a quilt show.
The women got together last year to start work on the Starry Night quilt, which is made up of 49 patchwork squares, all featuring star designs. It went on display on Saturday, at The Shakespeare Hall, in Durham City, and was then raffled to raise money for the charity.
Organiser Gillian Banks encouraged women from all over the region to take part in the project, some of whom were complete novices.
She said: "I am delighted with the finished Starry Night Quilt and it has been great fun making it. It is good to be raising money for such a worthwhile cause whilst also ensuring that the great tradition of quilting in this area continues."
The Cancer Research Campaign's community fundraiser Rebecca Laverick said: "The women have obviously put a tremendous amount of hard work, not only into making the quilts, but also into organising this splendid show."
Other quilts were on display at the show and visitors also had a chance to watch quilting demonstrations, as well as being able to browse through the needlework stalls.
