DARLINGTON boss Gary Bennett believes young midfielder Mark Convery has a bright future.
Convery, who arrived at Feethams last season, is only 20 but he is showing signs of developing into a winger who can torment opposing defences.
And Bennett, who takes his side to Barrow today, indicated that Convery could well find himself as a first-team regular if he continues to impress.
"Mark is a good player," said Bennett, who witnessed the player score a superb 25-yard free-kick at Guisborough Town on Thursday night. "There's no doubting that.
"He has a lot of talent and he has a determination to do well. Hopefully that will continue.
"He did very well for us last season and he is very talented and sharp. He is not the biggest of lads but he is quick and can beat his man.
"This could be a big year for him and he may find himself in there regularly."
Darlington are sending a strong squad to Barrow this afternoon while some of the fringe players will be given another run out at North Shields.
And Bennett will be monitoring closely the trialists he has at the club as decision time is rapidly approaching.
Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Sherwood impressed against Guisborough and he was joined by Cowdenbeath's Murray McDowell and Dutchmen Maurice Rayer and Mohammed Mahoote.
And Bennett revealed that all of them still have time to show what they can do, starting with both of today's matches.
"I've had Murray and Ben for most of pre-season and they have shown some positive signs," said Bennett. "Murray scored against Guisborough and Ben has looked quite good.
"Ben has come from Nottingham Forest and we have liked what we have seen. He can play in a number of positions, which could help us.
"But we have quite a few players on trial and we have to consider all of them.
"We will be reaching a decision on all of them probably within two weeks."
