HOMELESS German shepherd Sam has lived most of his life at Newton Aycliffe tip.
So a temporary stay at kennels will no doubt be like living in a five-star hotel for the three-year-old.
But his carers at Amirene Kennels, Widehope Farm, West Auckland, are eager to find him a permanent home.
Sam is in the care of the National Animal Sanctuaries Support League (NASSL), but due to a lack of space at the group's rescue centre, near Darlington, the charity is having to pay for him to stay at kennels.
Sam was taken into care when his owners were unable to look after him any longer.
Pauline Wilson, of NASSL, said: "We obviously screen any potential owners thoroughly.
"The next owner of Sam will have to love German Shepherds, and know how to care for them.
"Sam's a lovely dog and needs a lot of care and attention. We want to find a home as soon as possible."
To contact NASSL, telephone (01325) 321855, or call Pauline Wilson, on 07748 268822.
