FERRYHILL Town Council has awarded an £800 grant to a community centre.
The Mayor of Ferryhill, Councillor Kath Conroy, presented the cheque to Geoff Harker, secretary of Mainsforth Community Centre.
The centre is home to several groups, including Ferryhill Operatic Society and Ferryhill Station Residents' Association, and hosts several community activities. The cash will be used for running costs.
A spokesman for the town council said: "The council is committed to trying to improve the community as a whole by supporting worthy causes such as Mainsforth Community Centre."
