A Chinese chess set was taken by thieves who broke into a Wear Valley carpet warehouse last week.
More than £4,000-worth of computer equipment was also taken in the burglary at Riding Hall Carpets, Low Willington.
Detective Sergeant Kieran Reed, of Crook CID, said the chess set was distinctive, and is urging anybody who knows of its whereabouts, or anyone who has been offered it for sale, to get in touch.
Computer equipment taken included a Dell VDU, printer, keyboard and central processing unit (CPU), as well as a Packard Bell CPU.
The chess set and its board was in a brown wooden box. The theft was reported to police on Thursday.
l Thieves raided four lorries in a car park at Cowshill, Weardale, between 6pm on Saturday, and 4.15am, on Sunday.
CB radios were taken from each vehicle.
