A FORMER school and college, now up for sale, could be demolished to make way for houses.
The Fleetham Street campus of Cleveland College of Art and Design, in Middlesbrough, is being sold as part of the college's modernisation scheme.
In recent years, it has been creating better facilities, including introducing new information technology, building a refectory and installing a £100,000 lift. It plans to use the money from the sale of the Fleetham Street building to carry out further work.
David Lawton, the college's director of estates, said: "Fleetham Street has become redundant. The building is getting older and is no longer good enough. We will still be running with the same level of space."
While a buyer for the building, which was an infant and junior school before becoming an art college, has yet to be found, Mr Lawton said it is likely to be a developer.
"We believe the site will probably be demolished and better housing built," he said.
