HEALTH bosses have offered to meet campaigners who are fighting for a public inquiry.
Victims of disgraced former Northallerton surgeon Richard Neale, struck off for botching a string of operations, are pushing for a more open investigation.
Last month, the Government offered the group a behind-closed-doors "independent" investigation chaired by a senior NHS doctor.
But the group wants a full public inquiry, or at least a chairman from outside the NHS.
After an appeal from the patient group, Department of Health officials have agreed to meet representatives of the victims, in London, to discuss their grievances.
Graham Maloney, spokes- man for the former Neale patients, said: "We have been asked to attend a meeting at the Department of Health, early in September. I think they are concerned that the group are unhappy at what is being offered."
