PERMISSION has been granted for a pop concert, despite fears over fans' behaviour.
A meeting of Middlesbrough Borough Council's licensing committee was called yesterday after councillors failed to reach a decision over Radio One's application for a licence to hold One Big Sunday.
The event, which takes place in Stewart Park, Middlesbrough, attracted about 40,000 people last year.
A question mark hung over this year's event after councillors were told that duo DJ Luck and MC Neat, who are booked to perform, attract a rowdy following.
At the meeting, Cleveland licensing officer PC Revis Phillips said the firm responsible for security, Showsec, had provided reassurance over the threat of trouble.
Councillors heard that up to 50,000 people could attend the show on Sunday, August 19.
They granted a public entertainment licence, subject to noise and safety conditions.
The concert, broadcast from 2pm to 4pm, will include Samantha Mumba, and former All-Saint Mel Blatt.
