THEY were a far cry from the twin-seater buggies of modern times - and a famous museum is now paying tribute to the humble pram.
Staff at the World of James Herriot Centre, in Kirkgate, Thirsk, have taken delivery of a 1940s Hubcar pram, turning back the clock to the days when pushing baby along the street was a much more laborious task.
The pram was donated to the museum by regular volunteer Bob Knight, who found it stored in his attic.
Museums officer Margaret Tipton said the it would be displayed in the kitchen and garden areas.
"If the weather was nice, children would be wrapped up well and stuck outside in the garden.
"But if it was inclement they would be in the kitchen where mum would be working and could keep an eye on them," she said
