NORTH Yorkshire County Council has been awarded £1.1m to develop childcare and early education places for children up to the age of four.
The Government has awarded the money, which will benefit Colburn, Whitby and Scarborough, under the Neighbourhood Nurseries initiative.
Working with other agencies, such as the NSPCC, Sanctuary Housing Association, further education colleges and councils for voluntary services, the scheme will provide good quality childcare and nursery education.
It will also provide access to a wide range of services, including parenting courses and the opportunity for parents to gain qualifications to get back into work after taking time off to raise their families.
Dr Brenda Thiede, of the North Yorkshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (EYDCP), said: "I am absolutely delighted that North Yorkshire has been so successful in its bidding strategy.
"The EYDCP brings together a wide range of people and organisations concerned with childcare and early education.
"The Neighbourhood Nurseries initiative will enable the partnership to develop services in areas of the county which lack good quality childcare."
