HOSPITAL shop volunteers are contributing to easier and safer births by spending some of their profits on equipment for new mothers.
The Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) helpers who run the shop at the maternity unit at Bishop Auckland General Hospital make regular contributions to the department. Yesterday, project manager Olive Ingram presented three Tens pain relief machines and three sonic monitors, costing a total of £1,500, to the unit's senior midwife, Val Kitching.
The WRVS is seeking more volunteers. Contact Mrs Ingram on (01388) 662668 for details.
